It is not advised to use any kind of cleaning material on the shades but instead to vacuum them gently once a week or so. Cleaning clothes can also get fibers caught in the weave and create problems. So if your kitchen window is next to your stove where there might be things splattering on the shades, woven wood is not the way to go for your kitchen.
